Dentists today generally recommend bringing your child in for their first visit by the time they are 1 or within 6 months of their tooth erupting from their gums. Is it time for your child’s first appointment? If so, we are so excited to work with you and your child! To help you prepare for the visit, you can expect the following:

1. A welcoming dental team: Your child’s first appointment is very important because it allows your child to create friendships with our dentist, hygienist, and dental team. The earlier they are associated with the dental team and office, the more comfortable they will feel while in the dental chair in the future.

2. An easy dental exam: When it’s time for the exam, you can sit in the dental chair with your child to help them feel more comfortable and safe. However, some dentists like parents to wait in the reception area so they can create a trusting relationship with your child. During the exam, the dentist will gently check your child’s teeth, gums, and jaw. This way, if your child has any dental issues, they can be treated right away.

3. A simple dental cleaning: If it’s needed, the dentist or hygienist will perform a simple and gentle dental cleaning and fluoride treatment. These treatments will help your child grow into a strong and healthy smile.

4. An educational conversation: During the appointment, your dentist will talk to you about many dental topics, like an oral hygiene routine, proper nutrition, developmental milestones, fluoride needs, oral habits, and future appointments. Knowing these things will help you guide your child into a beautiful and healthy smile.

First appointments are easy and stress free. If you have any questions or if you would like to learn more, we encourage you to call our office now. We are more than happy to help you!
