What You Need to Know About Dental Crowns

  • When is a dental crown needed?

A dental crown can be made from a variety of materials, including ceramics, porcelain, and composite resin to create a tooth-shaped dental cap. This protects the newly restored tooth from further damage while maintaining the color of natural teeth.

When a tooth has become badly decayed, cracked, or worn down, your dentist may suggest a dental crown to salvage the remaining parts of the tooth. This is done as an alternative to a root canal as it requires gentle scraping of decay buildup on the surface of the tooth rather than in the root.

Using a crown is a much safer method to restore the health and beauty of the tooth as it creates a protective barrier, preventing further damage. Like a natural tooth, this crown allows you to eat, drink, and speak as you would with your natural teeth.

  • What are the benefits of having a dental crown?

A dental crown from Copperstone Dental offers many benefits, including:

    • Restoring damaged or decayed teeth
    • Provides protection for worn or weak teeth
    • Helps hold a dental bridge in place
    • Disguises tooth discoloration
    • Restores ability to eat meals without pain or difficulty

Like natural teeth, dental caps require daily maintenance, such as brushing and flossing, as plaque and buildup can occur. After receiving a dental crown, be sure to brush twice and day and floss at least once a day to prevent buildup. To learn more about receiving a dental crown from Copperstone Dental, contact our staff. We're happy to answer any questions you have!

  • What's the dental crown procedure like?

Dr. Matthew Tuft will first prepare the damaged tooth by cleaning in and around the tooth to ensure a proper installation. He will shave down the top part of the tooth to make room for the crown. Once the tooth has been properly shaped, he will make dental impression of the tooth to have your customized crown made.

Once your crown is available, your dentist will schedule your second dentist appointment to have your crown placed. He will test your bite and check for any inconsistencies. Once he has determined the correct fit, the crown will be cemented into place to become a permanent tooth. Same-day crowns available. To schedule an appointment, or to learn more about dental crown benefits, call our dental office today!

Commonly Asked Questions About Bridges

  • What's a dental bridge?

A dental bridge consists of two or more crowns placed on each side of a dental gap, with a false tooth, or teeth, to fill the empty space.

  • What does a dental bridge do?

Acting as your natural teeth, a dental bridge helps to maintain the shape and appearance of your smile by filling in the large space where the tooth, or teeth, is missing. Not only does this prevent deterioration of the jawbone but also prevents the surrounding teeth from shifting out of place.

  • What should I expect when getting a dental bridge?

When you come to Copperstone Dental, Dr. Tuft will first examine your teeth to see if a dental bridge is right for you. If so, he will take a series of photos, x-rays, and dental impressions to have a custom bridge made. Once available, Dr. Tuft will perform a final exam before fitting your teeth for the dental bridge.

Once the bridge has been placed, Dr. Tuft will cement the bridge into place and discuss cleaning and proper care. We offer same-day bridge work.

Helpful Dental Veneer Information

  • What are dental veneers?

Cosmetic veneers are thin, porcelain shells used to recreate the look of natural teeth. Each shell is custom-made to fit over the tooth’s surface, covering imperfections while maintaining its strength.

Cosmetic veneers are thin, porcelain tooth coverings used cosmetically to recreate the look of natural teeth or improve the shape and shade of teeth. Each veneer is custom-made to fit over the tooth surface, covering imperfections while maintaining its strength. Veneers are permanently bonded to your tooth structure.

  • What is the dental veneer process like?

At Copperstone Dental, placing a cosmetic veneer is safe, simple, and involves three easy steps:

    1. First, we will schedule a consultation to assess the health and condition of your current teeth and determine the appropriate treatment plan. Once treatment is reviewed and accepted you will then be reappointed for a records appointment.
    2. During the records appointment, we will take digital photos and impressions to send to our lab. We will also discuss the teeth shape and shade that you are interested in. The lab will then fabricate a 3D model of your new smile. This will be used to fabricate your temporary veneers.
    3. Once your veneer is ready, we'll schedule a fitting. Your veneer will be placed on your teeth and tested for strength and durability to ensure it can withstand the pressure and impact of natural teeth. Once the proper fit is determined, it's permanently bonded into place, and ready to act as your natural teeth.

  • What can I expect during the veneer procedure?

When you visit Copperstone Dental for veneers, Dr. Tuft will begin by conducting a comprehensive examination of your teeth to determine if veneers are the right option for you. If veneers are suitable, Dr. Tuft will proceed by taking a series of photos, x-rays, and dental impressions to craft custom veneers tailored to your unique smile.

Once your veneers are ready, Dr. Tuft will conduct a final examination before fitting them onto your teeth. The veneers will be carefully cemented into place, and Dr. Tuft will provide detailed instructions on cleaning and maintenance to ensure the longevity of your new smile. At Copperstone Dental, we are proud to offer same-day veneer services for your convenience.

Helpful Crowns, Bridges, and Veneers Information

  • What are Crowns, Bridges, and Veneers?

Dental crowns, bridges, and veneers are all common dental procedures used to address various issues with teeth, from structural damage to cosmetic imperfections.

  • Dental Crowns

    • Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that are placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. They can also be used to cover dental implants or hold dental bridges in place.
    • Crowns are often recommended for teeth with large cavities, extensive damage, cracks, or after root canal therapy.
    • They can be made from various materials including porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys, or a combination of materials. The choice of material depends on factors like durability, appearance, and the location of the tooth in the mouth.
  • Dental Bridges

    • Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth by bridging the gap between adjacent teeth. They consist of one or more artificial teeth (pontics) held in place by dental crowns on either side of the gap.
    • Like crowns, bridges can be made from different materials such as porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys, or a combination.
    • Bridges not only restore the appearance of your smile but also prevent adjacent teeth from shifting out of position, maintain facial shape, and distribute biting forces evenly.
  • Dental Veneers

    • Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells typically made of porcelain or composite resin that are bonded to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance.
    • Veneers are often used to correct teeth that are discolored, chipped, worn down, misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped.
    • The process involves minimal tooth preparation compared to crowns, making it a more conservative option for cosmetic enhancement.
    • Veneers can provide a natural-looking, long-lasting solution for improving the aesthetics of your smile.

Each of these dental treatments has its own advantages and considerations. Your dentist can help determine which option is best suited to address your specific dental needs and goals. Whether you're searching for the crowns, bridges, or veneers Meridian, ID residents prefer, we're the team for you. Contact us today to get started with the right dental treatment!

I had an absolutely fantastic visit to Copperstone Dental today! The entire staff has been friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home each time I’ve been for the past year and a half. Todays visit with Karen (hygienist) was not only professional but also made the cleaning process comfortable and enjoyable. I couldn't be happier with the care I’ve received each time I’ve been, and I'll definitely be coming back for all my dental needs. Thank you, Copperstone Dental, for making my dental visit such a positive experience! 😁
