Dental Implant Surgeries in Meridian, ID

With the advancement in technology comes the advancement in dental procedures. At Copperstone Dental, we are proud to offer dental implant surgery in Meridian, ID as a permanent fix to replace a missing tooth (or teeth).

Dental implants are made of a titanium metal post and tooth colored material, such as porcelain or composite resin. These materials are used to create a false tooth implant that will replace the root of the tooth. This implant replaces the root of the tooth and fuses with the jawbone to act as a natural tooth, allowing you to eat, chew, and bite naturally. As a tooth or bridge implant can take several months to complete, we recommend a consultation to discuss the process and time frame of your tooth or bridge implant.

The Pre-Dental Implant Exam

Before beginning the process, we will examine the dental gap and take a series of photos and x-rays to locate where the implant should be placed. We will discuss the process and time frame of the implant procedure as well as healing time and post-surgical care.

Dental Implant Surgery

Prior to starting the surgery, an anesthetic will be provided to numb the area receiving the implant and will begin once you are comfortable. Dr. Tuft and Dr. Ziegler will then make a small incision in the gum to begin the implantation. Once space is created, the implant will be gently inserted into the gum tissue to, over time, fuse with the jawbone. This process can take between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the patient.

The Dental Implant Healing Process

After the implant is inserted, your dentist will allow a “healing phase” before continuing the implant process. This allows the gums to heal from surgery and allows the implant to fuse with the jawbone. The process will vary with each patient, depending on the body’s ability to accept the implant and quality of bone health.

During your follow up visit, we will provide a temporary dental cap or “crown” to cover the implant post as it continues to heal, until the permanent crown is ready. During the healing process, one to four dental visits may be required to observe the gums as they heal.

Your Final Dental Implant Steps

When the permanent dental crown is ready, the crown will be fit to the dental implant and test your bite for any inconsistencies. If you are having multiple implants done, you may have a dental implant bridge that will cover and fuse the teeth together, to ensure a successful implantation. Proper oral health care and routine maintenance is key to lasting and healthy implant surgery. Our team will discuss proper after care with you and help you establish a daily oral care routine.

Helpful Dentures & Partials Information

  • What are Dentures & Partials?

Dentures are removable dental appliances used to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are custom-made to fit comfortably in the mouth and restore the appearance and functionality of natural teeth. Dentures can be either full or partial, depending on the number of missing teeth and the needs of the patient.

  • What are the 2 Main Types of Dentures

    1.  Complete dentures: These are used when all of the teeth are missing. Complete dentures consist of a flesh-colored acrylic base that fits over the gums. The base supports a full set of prosthetic teeth made from acrylic or porcelain. Complete dentures can be further categorized into conventional and immediate dentures:

    • Conventional dentures: These are made after the remaining teeth have been removed, and the gum tissues have begun to heal, which typically takes a few weeks. Once the healing process is complete, the dentures are fitted and adjusted to ensure a comfortable fit.
    • Immediate dentures: These are made in advance and can be placed immediately after the remaining teeth are removed. Immediate dentures allow patients to have teeth during the healing process but may require more adjustments as the gums shrink and heal.

    2.  Partial dentures: These are used when some natural teeth remain. Partial dentures consist of replacement teeth attached to a metal or acrylic framework that clasps onto the remaining natural teeth. They not only fill in the gaps created by missing teeth but also prevent the remaining teeth from shifting out of position.

Dentures offer several benefits, including improved aesthetics, speech, and chewing ability for individuals with missing teeth. However, they may take some time to adjust to, especially in the initial stages. Proper care and maintenance, including regular cleaning and check-ups with a dentist, are essential for ensuring the longevity and functionality of dentures.

In some cases, dental implants may be recommended as an alternative to traditional dentures. Dental implants are surgically placed in the jawbone and provide a stable foundation for permanent or removable replacement teeth. Your dentist can help you determine the best option based on your oral health, preferences, and budget.

  • Single Implants

If you're missing a single tooth, a dental implant can provide a durable and aesthetically pleasing solution. By surgically placing a titanium implant into the jawbone and topping it with a custom-made crown, we can seamlessly fill the gap in your smile while preserving the health of surrounding teeth. Single implants mimic the look and feel of natural teeth, offering a long-lasting and reliable replacement option.

  • Implant Supported Dentures

For patients missing multiple teeth or requiring full arch restoration, implant-supported dentures offer an advanced solution. By strategically placing dental implants into the jawbone and attaching custom dentures, we can provide a stable and secure prosthetic that eliminates the need for messy adhesives or worries about slippage. Implant-supported dentures restore your ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence, enhancing both your oral function and quality of life.

  • Implant Supported Prosthetic

Implant-supported prosthetics are an ideal solution for patients with several adjacent missing teeth. By anchoring a prosthetic bridge to strategically placed dental implants, we can restore the appearance and function of your smile while preserving the health of surrounding teeth. Implant-supported prosthetics blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, providing a durable and long-lasting replacement option that enhances your overall oral health.
