Your dental cleaning and prevention plan at Copperstone Dental includes regularly having x-rays taken of your teeth. Our office is equipped with the latest x-ray technology, digital radiography, which uses an electronic sensor to capture more accurate, digital images of your teeth.
The digital x-ray process is much faster and more comfortable for our patients than traditional x-rays, and the radiation emitted from the digital x-ray machine is less than what is emitted from a microwave oven, a common household appliance. And, because the digital x-ray images can be instantly viewed, our dental team will be able to detect and diagnose any potential problems much faster than ever before.
Along with the low radiation and instant viewing, this x-ray machine allows your dentist, Dr. Matthew Tuft and Dr. Sean Ziegler, the opportunity to closely zoom in on the picture to evaluate small characteristics that would not typically be seen with the naked eye.
Digital x-rays in Meridian, ID, also have the ability to compare new x-rays to old x-rays and identify any changes that have been made. This is called subtraction radiography. When the machine is commanded to compare the two images, it will subtract any section of the images that are the exact same. This will then leave the changes apparent on the screen, big or small. This allows us to completely evaluate your overall health and take the necessary steps to proceed. To learn more about digital x-rays, call us now!
At Copperstone Dental, we aim to not only take care of your teeth, but to also take care of the tissues, gums, and bones that support your teeth. We take periodontal disease very seriously at our practice, and we strive prevent it, diagnose it, and treat it in every way we can.
There are many signs that can be associated with periodontal disease, which include excessive bleeding in the gums, persistent bad breath, receding gums, and loose teeth. If you're suffering from these symptoms, we invite you to come into our office as soon as possible.
Periodontal disease occurs when the plaque on your teeth remains untreated. It will eventually release toxins into your oral cavity and irritate your gums, making them bleed and shrivel away from the teeth. If this continues, the toxins attack the bone that holds your teeth in place. Once the bone begins to deteriorate, your teeth become loose and eventually fall out.
To help maintain your overall oral health, we offer a variety of periodontal and deep cleaning services, including scaling and root planing. Together, we can work to help you achieve optimal oral health. For more information about periodontal care in Meridian, ID, please contact our office today and schedule an appointment with Dr. Matthew Tuft and Dr. Sean Ziegler. We also have laser therapy available!
Annual teeth cleanings are very important to your oral health. Along with routine oral care, a professional teeth cleaning helps to remove and prevent harmful bacteria from lurking in your teeth and gums. When you practice good oral care with daily brushing and flossing, you prevent plaque from colonizing on your teeth that damage your tooth enamel.
At Copperstone Dental, we want to help keep your teeth plaque-free! Call now to schedule your next dental cleaning appointment.
At Copperstone Dental, our professional teeth cleaning consists of four simple steps your hygienist will take to thoroughly clean your teeth and gums:
Fluoride treatment is a type of gel or paste used as a protective shield to help prevent cavities. After your cleaning, your hygienist will coat the gel on your teeth and leave for about one minute, then rinse out with a diluted mouth rinse.
It is inevitable that plaque causing bacteria will begin to form within 48 hours after a teeth cleaning, which is why it’s important to practice good oral health care. Brushing twice a day and flossing once per day, or after each meal, will help to keep your teeth healthy and tartar-free!
Start improving your dental health today by scheduling a professional teeth cleaning with Dr. Tuft and Dr. Ziegler at Copperstone Dental. We want to help you on your journey to excellent oral health!

Oral hygiene refers to the practice of maintaining the cleanliness of the mouth, teeth, and gums to prevent dental problems such as cavities, gum disease, bad breath, and tooth loss. Good oral hygiene habits are essential for overall health and well-being, as oral health is closely linked to systemic health.
By incorporating these oral hygiene practices into your daily routine and maintaining regular dental visits, you can help ensure the health and longevity of your teeth and gums. Healthy teeth and gums contribute to overall well-being and quality of life.
Oral hygiene and fluoride go hand in hand as essential components of maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Fluoride is a mineral that plays a crucial role in preventing tooth decay and strengthening tooth enamel. When used as part of a comprehensive oral hygiene routine, fluoride can significantly reduce the risk of cavities and other dental problems.
While fluoride offers significant benefits for oral health, it's essential to use it appropriately and in moderation. Excessive fluoride consumption can lead to dental fluorosis, a condition characterized by white spots or streaks on the teeth. Talk to your dentist about the appropriate use of fluoride products and any concerns you may have about fluoride intake. With proper use, fluoride can be a valuable tool in maintaining a healthy smile and preventing dental problems.
Yes, fluoride is safe when used appropriately and in recommended amounts. It has been extensively studied and proven to be effective in preventing tooth decay and promoting oral health. Fluoride occurs naturally in water sources and is also added to many dental products, including toothpaste, mouthwash, and professional dental treatments, to help strengthen tooth enamel and protect against cavities.
However, like many substances, fluoride can cause harm if consumed in excessive amounts. Dental fluorosis, a cosmetic condition characterized by white spots or streaks on the teeth, can occur when children ingest too much fluoride during the early stages of tooth development. This condition is primarily a concern in areas with naturally high levels of fluoride in the water supply or when children swallow fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash.
To prevent dental fluorosis and ensure the safe use of fluoride:
Overall, when used as directed and in recommended amounts, fluoride is a safe and effective tool for preventing tooth decay and promoting oral health. It's important to strike a balance between benefiting from fluoride's protective effects and avoiding excessive intake to minimize the risk of dental fluorosis. If you have any questions or concerns about fluoride safety, don't hesitate to discuss them with your dentist or healthcare provider.
