Unlike silver or gold fillings, composite fillings are made of a durable white resin material to replace the damaged tooth structure without the use of metals or mercury. Composites are often preferred as they can be used on the anterior and posterior parts of the mouth to withstand large amounts of pressure and impact. Like normal teeth, filling material can also become decayed by plaque buildup so it's important to brush and floss them regularly.

Dental Filling Procedure

When Dr. Tuft and Dr. Ziegler schedules you for a filling, he will start by using an anesthetic to numb the affected area before beginning the procedure. This numbs the area around the tooth to prevent any pain or discomfort. Next, Dr. Tuft and Dr. Ziegler will remove the decay from the affected area by cleaning in and around the tooth to ensure the area is clear.


Finally, Dr. Tuft and Dr. Ziegler will restore the tooth using the composite filling by rebuilding the tooth structure to imitate that of a real tooth. When the process is finished, Dr. Tuft and Dr. Ziegler will go over proper care for the newly restored tooth.
