Custom Night Guards in Meridian, ID

A custom night guard, also known as an occlusal splint or bite guard, is a dental appliance designed to protect the teeth and jaws from the effects of teeth grinding (bruxism) or clenching during sleep. These habits can lead to various dental issues such as tooth wear, fractures, jaw pain, and headaches.

Here's how the process typically works for getting a custom night guard

  1. Dental Examination: Your dentist will examine your teeth and jaws to assess the extent of teeth grinding or clenching and to check for any existing dental problems.
  2. Impressions or Digital Scans: To create a custom-fit night guard, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth or use digital scanning technology to create a precise model of your mouth.
  3. Custom Fabrication: Using the impressions or digital scans, a dental laboratory will fabricate the night guard specifically tailored to the contours of your teeth and gums.
  4. Fitting: Once the night guard is ready, you'll return to your dentist's office for a fitting. Your dentist will ensure that the night guard fits comfortably and securely in your mouth and make any necessary adjustments.
  5. Instructions for Use: Your dentist will provide you with instructions on how to properly use and care for your night guard. This typically includes cleaning instructions and recommendations for when to wear the night guard (usually during sleep).

Custom night guards offer several advantages over over-the-counter (OTC) or boil-and-bite alternatives. They provide a more precise fit, which enhances comfort and effectiveness in protecting the teeth and jaws. Additionally, custom night guards are often made from higher-quality materials that are more durable and resistant to wear.

If you suspect that you may be grinding or clenching your teeth during sleep, or if you experience symptoms such as jaw pain or headaches upon waking, it's essential to consult with your dentist. They can assess your oral health and recommend the most appropriate treatment, which may include a custom night guard to help protect your teeth and alleviate symptoms associated with bruxism.
